2004-01-25 - 1:18 a.m. WEEK #1 This week I was given the difficult and daunting task to not only introduce myself to the person I sit next to in class, but to get to know them AND write a profile on them. That's a little too much work for the first day, if you'd like to know my opinion. Nevertheless, I struck up an engrossing conversation with the lovely and intelligent young lady who shares my two-fer table with me. As luck would have it, I happened to already know her, but that doesn't mean I did any less work for this assignment. I uncovered many interesting facts that I believe will interest and astound you. For example, her name Niki is actually short for Nikita. I didn't know that. La Femme Nikita! Niki was born in what is today called the Czech Republic, formerly known as Czechoslovakia. She lived there for 10 years before her family moved back and forth between France and Germany. In 1996 they moved to Montreal, where just one year later Bret Hart would be screwed. And in 2000 she came to America. Naturally, she did not grow up speaking English, but became quite fluent after taking classes. She still has a very strong accent, though, which I find to be awesome. I could just listen to her talk all day. At first, I always assumed from her accent that she was from Russia. But Niki tells me that Russian and Czechoslovakian are both Slavic, so I wasn't that far off after all. I think it bears noting that she can actually spell "Czechoslovakian" right off the top of her head, which is no small feat. Niki is currently working towards degrees in Art and Art Education, and she'd like to teach after her artwork starts selling for millions. She has no pets, she lives off campus, and her favorite color is purple. Just like my diary! The End.
